Course Overview
The Tec Deep program is the complete, unified pathway for divers who want to progress from recreational limits into full technical diving. This combined course includes Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50, taught together as a streamlined, integrated training package.
Under the expert instruction of Ed Bosworth, you will train using either backmount twin-sets or sidemount, with additional staged decompression cylinders and up to 100% oxygen for accelerated decompression.
Working in partnership with Go2Similan Diving, this course takes full advantage of Khao Lak’s deep reefs and wrecks, giving you ideal real-world environments to apply the techniques you learn.
This is the course for divers who are serious about becoming fully certified technical divers.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tec Deep
What is the Tec Deep programme?
Tec Deep is the complete PADI TecRec programme that combines Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50 into one continuous training path. You start with limited decompression training and progress through to full multi-gas decompression dives to 50 metres, building skills, confidence and planning discipline at each step.
Who is Tec Deep designed for?
Tec Deep is designed for experienced divers who want to commit to becoming fully qualified technical divers rather than taking each level separately. It suits divers who enjoy structured training, detailed planning and the challenge of deeper, longer and more complex dives with staged decompression.
What certification will I have after Tec Deep?
On successful completion of the full Tec Deep programme, you’ll normally qualify as Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50, meeting the requirements of each level along the way. This recognises you as a fully trained PADI TecRec diver for air and nitrox decompression dives to 50 metres with multiple gases.
How long does the Tec Deep course take?
Tec Deep usually runs over a longer block of training days, often around 8–10 days depending on conditions, logistics and how quickly you master each level. The schedule includes detailed theory, land drills and a structured sequence of progressively deeper decompression dives building from Tec 40 through Tec 45 to Tec 50.
Can I split Tec Deep into separate trips?
Where possible, Tec Deep is best taken as a continuous programme so your skills and confidence build without long gaps. However, it may be possible to break the training into separate blocks that line up with Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50 if your schedule or travel plans require it. Ed can advise on the most realistic plan for your experience and availability.
What are the prerequisites for joining Tec Deep?
You should be an experienced and current diver with strong buoyancy, trim and situational awareness. You’ll normally need Advanced Open Water, Rescue, Deep and Nitrox certifications, plus a minimum number of logged dives including experience in deeper water and challenging conditions. You also need to be comfortable in a twinset or sidemount configuration. Ed will review your logbook and experience against the latest PADI Tec Deep standards and may recommend warm-up or assessment dives before starting the course.
What equipment do I need for Tec Deep?
You’ll dive in a full technical setup: twinset or sidemount configuration, one or more stage and decompression cylinders, long-hose and backup regulators, redundant buoyancy, backup timing and depth devices, and appropriate exposure protection. If you don’t yet own a complete tec configuration, Ed can help arrange suitable equipment and guide you through configuration choices as you progress through the programme.
Where does the Tec Deep training take place?
Tec Deep training is based in Khao Lak, Thailand. You’ll use classroom facilities for theory and dive planning, and local sites that offer the depth, conditions and logistics required for progressive technical training dives up to 50 metres with staged decompression.
